Condensed October 2003
President's Report
“Last February, when Don Brinton and I found there was a
two year wait for admission to The Probus Club of
Vancouver, we wondered "Why not start a Probus Club on
the North Shore?" That was the beginning. Vancouver
Probus offered support and their sponsorship. Stu
McNeill, Barry Gosney, Don Smith and Glenn Ferguson
joined us to form a founding Management Committee. A
formal name was chosen, stationery designed, a bank
account opened and a meeting place secured.
“By early summer we wondered how many members we might
attract. By mid-July we reached over 60 and by early
September we were more than 100. We knew that the
quality of speakers is key to a successful club, so we
concentrated on building our speaker programs and we now
have an excellent line-up of speakers through to March
2004. For those of you who missed our Charter meeting
on September 16, it was a memorable morning with 116
present, pushing our membership above our decided 150
cap, with applicants on a waiting list. With our
Charter Certificate in hand we chose Tuesday, October 21
for our inaugural meeting and the third Tuesday of each
month for regular monthly meetings.
“John Leonard, President”
In
